Artist Statement

One of the main qualities that describe me is childlike innocence. The concept of innocence is evident throughout various matters in the world such as nature, as they both hold the underlying aspect of purity, and it is this concept that is the driving force of my artwork.

As an artist I consider one my greatest strengths to be the ability of emulating any kind style or reference. I use this skill to follow through on artworks that represent who I am, and my interests. Because the idea of purity and morality is important to me, almost of all of my inspiration comes from stories that have strong morale messages such as animated children movies. For example, my light project for VIST 106 was inspired by Atlantis: the Lost Empire. In this piece I wanted to imitate the style of the blue glowing organic line work seen throughout the film. In other pieces of artwork, my admiration of purity leads me to search for references that can fulfill that vision. For example, in the guardian project for VIST 106, I decided to create my humanoid figure to be a mixture of man and tree because of my interest in nature. In order follow through on the idea I had to research references from everyday life, art history, and science.  My references for the tree portion and texture of the figure came trees that I walked by every day.  The references for the human portion came from muscle diagrams, and famous sculpted statues like Michelangelo’s David.

Working on the skills I have now, I hope to gradually acquire the skill being able to create a wide range of key visuals, to the point of being able to produce anything when called for. Then, I hope to utilize these skills to support meaningful ideas and stories.
